While most club members were preparing for the fast approaching NW League, Rosaleen managed to persuade Ryan and Rudy to join Donegal Harriers for the much anticipated Creeslough Hunt on Saturday last. Both Ryan and Rudy took to the hunting field like seasoned hunters, jumping every ditch, tree and wall that they approached.
Shaun and Manus led the drag for the day, with the hounds hot on their heels, while Rosaleen and Niamh led the field. Ever considerate to the newcomers, John took it upon himself to show Ryan and Rudy how NOT to jump a water jump……Helen has since been seen searching for wetsuits on e-bay.
Donegal Gaeltacht and Letterkenny Riding Club were both well represented at the hunt, with Micky McHugh, Marina Hamilton, Rachel & Libby Carton, Leo Porter, Kerry Smith & Anne Chambers all braving the elements to attend the hunt. Liz was on hand with the camera and did a superb job photographing all the thrills and spills of the day.
The Creeslough Hunt is well established as a favourite with the Donegal Harriers, boasting over 100 natural jumps and fantastic scenery, and this was reflected in the large turn-out on the day. Thankfully the awful weather which was predicted held off long enough for everyone (well almost everyone…) to make it back to the pub relatively dry, although somewhat tired, hungry and extremely thirsty!! In fact some were so thirsty that it took until 2am to quench their thirst…..
Unfortunately next week’s Falcarragh Hunt clashes with the first leg of the North West League, there may be some difficult decisions ahead this week!
