Saturday evening saw a great club turnout for the talk given by club member John Mc Daid. John is an exceptionally skilled and well respected Master Farrier who gave a very interesting and informative talk to club members on the internal workings of a horse’s leg and hoof. He explained the importance of hoof care from an early age and was able to demonstrate the different ways a foal’s hooves and legs could develop if proper hoof care was not carried out. He brought along a variety of shoes and pads to show the different methods and techniques farriers can use to help improve the various different hoof and leg ailments that horses can suffer from. Everyone who attended found the talk fascinating and could’ve listened on for hours! After the talk everyone headed to Ostan Loch Altan in Gortahork where refreshments were provided. It gave everyone a chance to catch up with one another and have a good night’s craic – always the highlight of any club activity! Many thanks to John for the fantastic talk and we look forward to another in the future!
