Yesterday evening’s weather was perfect for our equestrian activities and we were able to build the show jumping course on grass for the first time this year. We had a good turnout too: Liz, Ryan, Laura, Rudy, Mickey, Carmel, Manus, Roisin, Tommy and Packie. Trish instructed us over the course. Liz and Ryan were just there for the cross country and seemed to be having great fun.
The show jumping on grass was good practice for Laura and Rudy who will be doing it again at the Riding Clubs’ Festival on 8th and 9th June. Laura and Mickey, members of our RDS team, were showing us how it was done and Laura had perfect control over the jump-off course and won the trial jump-off easily. Packie went first and was very happy with his time of 30.4 seconds, but he just couldn’t believe that Carmel managed it in 29.7 seconds. Laura, off course, was around 24 seconds, from what I remember. Killy was having none of it and had some very unusual jumps over no.5, to say the least! It was all good practice and well worth taking part in. Some members then headed around the cross country course to finish off. By the time we put away all the show jumps light was fading and we went away happy, although Manus does need a new skull cap!
